Chikiting : pictures of the feral cat we "adopted", i.e.,feed. while she immediately runs to the back porch when i call her name, and she has learned to meow when she wants to eat (no meow, no food -- i mean, for all i know, she just wants to hang out, so i need a signal to let me know that she wants to eat), more trust needs to be built.

As the Kitty World Turns, Episode 7 (070608) : i know i just took pictures of them yesterday. but they are growing so fast that they actually look more like cats at certain moments rather than kittens. today they decided not to spend too much time in tommyworld but kept rather close to momma. even lucky looks to her mom first before playing "feather" with me. hmmm... maybe some kittens have been given a talking to. chikiting just sits by the fence near the entrance to tommyworld waiting for her kitties to come home. she also gets very agitated when they are gone too long and keeps calling them home. then when the come home, she really licks them and grooms them... there are fewer sitings of big daddy, and definitely none of mr. black cat. maybe the supersoaker works! sometimes i think that because of lucky's adventurousness, she may one day choose to leave home... the one who will probably stay is hello kitty, since she tends to stay with her mom most of the time and is the only one who "kisses" my hand -- well, puts her nose to my hand and who lets me pet her). maybe fluffy will leave, too. lucky and fluffy tend to be gone a long time, exploring places and come back later in the day. socks and hello kitty stay close to home.

070908 - Kittyworld has expanded : The kitties have discovered the front yard. This is sort of causing us some apprehension since the next thing they will discover is the street, which can be dangerous. In the meantime, we are getting ready to have them spayed/neutered. It took me almost 3 hours just to get this all sorted out. Actors & Others for Animals has been a great help (they actually gave me $30 coupons for each cat, which means we don't have to spend a lot for the spaying and neutering, but will probably have to spend for some shots). We are taking them to a clinic in Sylmar. But we have to catch them the night before in the trap that bob built (which you will see in the pictures) so that we are sure that they do not eat or drink for at least 8 hours before the procedure. I guess this means that we put the cage in the workshop, turn the airconditioner on, so that chikiting does not hear them cry. i wonder if i can turn om mani padme hum or om shanti to calm them down. i do plan to do some pranic healing to calm them down. we do not know how many kitties we will be able to trap at one time. just the thought of it is heart wrenching. but we have to do this. i wish it were easier -- catch them, take them to the vet, etc. but to have them in a cage overnight is just so traumatic. especially when chikiting is so overprotective. and just when the kitties are getting used to me. especially hello kitty. she eats out of my hand now and lets me pet her. this drives chikiting crazy. she watches me but feels helpless (my interpretation since she does not do anything, just glares at me). then, after that, she went to hello kitty and groomed her and kissed her. maybe she was trying to erase the "marking" i had done on her baby... also, whenever i play with the kitties (with the feather), she will sit, with her back turned to me, and then do her calling meow -- just one short meow -- and i know that she is calling them. sometimes they listen to her, sometimes not. lucky usually doesn't. she loves playing with the feather. socks runs to his mom right away. tonight, i remembered that i have this cat fridge magnet that meows. so i took it outside and let it meow. the 4 kitties all immediately ran to me and then were puzzled. they did not know where that meow came from. chikiting gave her short meow to call them, but they were just to intrigued too listen to her...
